Manoel Messias vence ITU WC Lima

O brasileiro Manoel Messias fez história neste domingo, ao vencer sua primeira World Cup na carreira, em Lima, no Peru. Ele marcou com um forte sprint o final da etapa de corrida, superando Florin Salvisberg (SUI) e Felix Duchampt (que é francês, mas está se naturalizando romeno) . A prova foi disputada na distância Sprint, com 750mts de natação, 20km de ciclismo e 5km de corrida.

As ondas do mar haviam aumentado ainda mais quando os homens começaram a nadar, duas horas depois das mulheres. Foi Bob Haller quem chegou mais perto de quebrar a marca de oito minutos, quando entrou em uma onda oportuna, pegou um “jacaré” e saiu rapidamente em direção à transição, seguido por Kenji Nener (JAP) e Morgan Pearson (EUA) seus rivais mais próximos.

A breve subida e descida no início de cada volta deu apenas uma curta oportunidade de estabelecer qualquer forma de intenção de fuga, e como ninguém aproveitou esse momento, um grupo de 40 atletas se reuniu durante a maior parte dos 20 km.

Stefan Zachaus (LUX) e Jan Volar (CHE) foram os primeiros a tentar fazer uma jogada, mas o esforço foi de curta duração; quem conseguiu vingar um ataque foi o trio formado por Jumpei Furuya (JAP) e os brasileiros Reinaldo Colucci e Diogo Sclebin, que conseguiu pequena vantagem ao entrar na transição.

Eles conseguiram criar uma lacuna de dez segundos para começar a corrida de 5 km, mas era outro brasileiro, Manoel Messias, que assumiu a ponta e os ultrapassou logo no início da disputa. Messias parecia intocável por um quilômetro, mas Zachaus, a dupla norte-americana Kevin McDowell e Pearson, Ran Sagiv (ISR) e Tim Helvig (GER) se recusaram a deixá-lo fora de vista. Também estavam Salvisberg (SUI), Duchampt e Rostislav Pevtsov (AZE) como parte de um grupo de sete líderes.

Nos 300m finais, o grupo líder caiu para cinco, mas foi o Messias que acelerou em grande estilo mais uma vez e desta vez ele não seria pego. O brasileiro cruzou a fita por dois segundos de um emocionado Salvisberg, Duchampt cruzou em 3º, à frente do par americano de McDowell e Pearson.

“Isso me deixa muito feliz”, disse Messias, e completou: “Foi difícil pela presença de alguns corredores fortes, mas eu fui decisivo no final. Agora é para Santo Domingo, onde espero poder fazer o mesmo novamente.”

Entre as mulheres, vitória da japonesa Ai Ueda, com a ucraniana Yuliya Yelistratova em 2º e a veterana Elizabeth Bravo em 3º. A brasileira melhor colocada foi Beatriz Neres, em 22º lugar, seguida por Djenyfer Arnold, em 36º lugar e Luma Guillen em 40º.
